Charlotte M. Tuttle

Portsmouth - Charlotte Mingis Tuttle, 89, widow of John Vernon Tuttle died Thursday, February 28, 2013 in her residence. She was a member of Churchland Baptist Church and the Bible Class. She also belonged to the Auxiliary Sentara Medical Center. She is predeceased by her parents Thera Clyde and Emma Newton Mingis; her sister, Vivian Owens Carlton; and a brother, Thera C. Mingis, Jr.

She is survived by her brother, Gerald E. Mingis, Sr. of Camden, NC; and four nieces and nephews, Linwood Mingis of Richmond, VA, Jean Marie Mingis of Fowlerville, MI, Gerald Mingis, Jr. of Brighton, MI and Keith Mingis of Greenwood Village, CO.

Charlotte was a lifetime resident of Portsmouth, graduated in the 1940 class of Woodrow Wilson High School, and she and John attended all of the fun filled class reunions. She attended the Norfolk Division of William and Mary. She retired from what is now Sentara Hospital where she worked in the administrative offices. She was a confirmed believer in blood donations and gave many gallons. She also served as a registrar when she was unable to continue as a giver. She and John were members of Meals on Wheels and Portsmouth Community Concerts. Charlotte was a 50 year plus member of the Womans Club of Portsmouth. After retirement they traveled the United State, Europe, Russia and Jerusalem. The best thrill of all their vacations was a “white water rapids” trip through the Grand Canyon.

A private burial will held at a later date in Churchand Baptist Church Cemetery. Sturtevant Funeral Home, Bennetts Creek Chapel is handling arrangements.

Charlotte asks that in her memory you bring loving kindness to all which will make the world a better place and indeed love your neighbor as yourself as recorded in James 2:8.
