CHESAPEAKE – Raymond Marlow Free, Sr., 87, of the 1100 block of Woodland Terrace Drive, passed away Tuesday, March 5, 2013. A native of Habersham, GA, he was a retired district counselor for The Virginian-Pilot. He was a founding member, elder and Sunday School teacher at West Park Church of Christ and also served in the US Marine Corps.
Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Hazel McLawhorn Free; a daughter, Linda Free; a son, Raymond M. Free, Jr. and wife Nan; a son-in-law, William Roberson; four grandchildren, Nik Free, John Free, Judy Jawhar and Alisha Roberson; six great-grandchildren, Ethan, Margaret, Ruby, Tony, Vivienne and Max; numerous nieces and nephews including a special niece, Margaret Fredette. He was predeceased by a daughter, Susan Roberson.
A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, March 8, in West Park Church of Christ by Mr. Keith Lewis. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the church or a favorite charity.
